I wrote for Hey Dude for a year, way back when (beginning in fall of 1989 until it wrapped in December of 1990). I also lived on location (Tucson, AZ) with the production for four months (September - December 1990). The network always kept one writer on the set in case last minute changes had to be made (if the weather got in the way, or an actor got sick), and to generally keep an eye on things. Graham (Yost) had that job for the longest period, then a writer named Steve Roth did it, and then I did it for the last seventeen episodes in production.

Hey Dude was my first professional writing job. (I was a development executive before that, and I, like Mark Cerulli, knew Alan Goodman, who was the head writer before Graham took over. Alan brought me on for an episode, and I ended up becoming one of their stable of writers.) I have very, very fond memories of that time of my life...

Lisa Melamed wrote some of Hey Dude's most entertaining and memorable episodes, such as "Dan the Man," "Sewn at the Hip," "Ex-Static," and "Miss Tucson."

Not surprisingly, Lisa has gone on to considerable success since Hey Dude. She has her own production company (Misery Loves Company) and has written and produced several television shows including Brooklyn Bridge, Sisters, and Party of Five.
