IRC
Irc has got to be one of the greatest methods
of talking with other like-minded people on the net. There's a
page devoted
to Linux-oriented channels that I recommend checking out. These
channels are all on EFnet. Here's a list of EFnet servers for
anyone who can never remember one IRC network from another (like me).

Mailing Lists
There are a zillion mailing lists devoted to
Linux. Mailing lists are a great way to communicate with
a large group of people about a focused topic. Check the Linux
Mailing Lists site. It gives you a complete listing and
allows you subscribe and unsubscribe to any of the mailing lists
automatically.
Linux Users Groups
LUGs exist around the world to allow people to gather locally
in person to do Linux stuff. Linux Online has a comprehensive list of
user groups. So go there.
Hey I gotta root for the home team
here, and point all the Phoenix folks to the Phoenix Linux User's
Group.
