The Awareness Project offers this resource guide for addressing homophobia in your community. Education is the only lasting cure for bigotry. Do your part for understanding, use these and other materials to help educate your community.

BROCHURES

Homophobia: What are we so afraid of?: A 12-page trifold addressing the myths about homosexuality. 14 references are cited. A Spanish language version is also available. $0.35 ea

PRINT ADS

You can place these thought-provoking educational ads in your local paper. Camera-ready ads can be sent to your specifications or they can be sent as encapsulated postscript files (Quark) on a Macintosh disk. Work with your advertising sales representative to determine what they require. $25.00 on Paper or $8.00 on Disk

Is it a Crime to Love?: Depicts a loving lesbian couple and reminds us there is already too much hate in the world.

Dan is gay ... so they crippled him for LIFE: Addresses the personal effects of anti-gay violence.

A Child is LISTENING: Mary Griffith tells the story of what drove her son, Bobby, to suicide. She cautions parents that children are listening when you "amen" condemnation of gay people. You may be teaching your children to hate themselves.

Are you abusing your child without knowing it?: This variation of the A child is listening ad uses a moving excerpt from Bobby Griffith's diary.

Do you believe in Civil Rights?: Activist Xavier Hall recalls her aunt's and grandmother's courage in the black civil rights movement and reminds us that no one is free until we are all free.

Guess What?: Shows a diverse group of gay men and lesbians encouraging people to look beyond the stereotypes.

Guess What? (Gay Version): This version of our newest ad reminds the gay and lesbian community that we must also face internalized homophobia.

PSAs (Public Service Announcements)

Public Service Announcements (PSAs) are an ideal way of getting a message out to the public with minimal expenses.

A child is listening: This PSA is a video version of our popular print ad featuring Mary Griffith telling the story of her son Bobby. It is available in 10, 30 and 60 second spots in either VHS 1/2 inch or 3/4 inch formats. $25.00 per copy

SPEAKERS BUREAU MANUAL

Why not set up a local Speakers Bureau to educate people at local colleges, schools , churches, businesses, etc. This manual is a good starter kit on how to run a successful Speakers Bureau. $5.00 per copy

GUIDE FOR MEDIA PROFESSIONALS

The media guide is designed to help media professionals provide more accurate coverage of gay and lesbian issues. It contains a glossary of terms together with a list of Do's and Don'ts for gay/lesbian stories and AIDS. $3.00 per copy
